Crowns and bridges

Crowns

A crown is an artificially constructed tooth that attaches to a tooth/root. Crowns are usually developed and adapted when your original tooth is so damaged that it cannot be repaired with a filling. The tooth is sanded down/prepared and it we'll take an imprint of the tooth in our dental laboratory. In some ases it will be necessary to perform a tooth canal and then produce a state for sufficient anchorage/grip around the tooth to make a crown. The crown is then attached on the pin.

A crown is supposed to feel like a part of your natural teeth. It is very durable and aesthetically pretty. The crown itself is almost indestructible, but the tooth can still be exposed to tooth decay/dental caries. Good dental hygiene and regular check ups at the dentists is therefore very important.

Today's dentists have a wide variety of dental materials to choose from when selecting the type of material for a crown. Some crowns are made of gold, while others are prepared from an alloy of metals fused with porcelain. It is common that the inner core of a crown is made of a very durable material, such as gold or titanium. In recent years ceramic crowns have become more usual. There are many different brands and types of porcelain crowns, and the variation in costs usually reflect the quality of the various material used.

Examples and descriptions of various materials/crowns:

☆Porcelain crowns: The crowns are made of porcelain and are not as strong as bonded crowns but look very natural and is often used for front teeth.

☆Ceramic crowns: This modern technique offers a metal-free alternative that can provide the strength of a bonded crown and the appearance of a porcelain crown. Therefore it is suitable for use in all parts of the mouth.

☆Glass crowns: These look very natural and are applied to both front- and back teeth.

☆Gold alloy crowns: Gold is one of the oldest finning materials. Nowadays they are used with metal alloys to increase strength, which makes them extremely durable and versatile.

Bridges

If you are missing several teeth your dentist may recommend a dental bridge. Dental bridges are useful in restoring your natural appearance and they can help you chat and eat properly. A bridge consist of false teeth and is usually dependent on supporting teeth on each side of the tooth slot. If these teeth have large fillings or damage from before a bridge may be a very good option because dentists won't have to grind away as much of the healthy part of the tooth. However, if the teeth have no fillings or damage the dentist have to grind away much of the healthy part of the teeth for the bridge to fit.

Bridges are made individually and prepared in our dental laboratory for our patient.

Another alternative may be a so-called etching bridge pasted to the back of the supporting teeth. An etching bridge require little grinding on the supporting teeth, but is unfortunately easier loosened than an original bridge. Sometimes etching bridges are used as a temporary solution until you can insert an implant.

Bridge implant
If you are lacking several teeth an option may be to use a combination between a bridge and implants An example of this might be if you are missing three teeth, we can insert two implants and combine them with a bridge attached to the implants.

Procedure of ceramic dental bridge:

The entire process of a dental bridge to be held in place by existing teeth is relatively simpe and can take very little time to complete. This is often done in one trip to the clinic but you will have to spend a few days in Budapest.

  1. Your dentist at the clinic will examine your current situation. Then you and your dentist can determine which solution works best for you.
  2. After you have decided the dentist will prepare your adjacent teeth so they can be used as anchors for the final all-ceramic dental bridge. A minimum of two adjacent teeth will be reshaped. The dentist will then take an imprint of this specific area in your mouth to make a temporary dental bridge for you to use while the final one is being made. We will send the imprint to a laboratory where a model is made. The lab makes your new all-ceramic dental bridge from the model.
  3. When your dentist have received your new dental bridge you must return to the clinic to get the bridge fitted and cemented. Your dentists will ensure that the dental bridge fits properly and that you are happy with the result. The production process at our laboratory ensures a perfect fit with little or no modification necessary.
  4. Your dentist will finally cement the dental bridge in place and your smile is complete!
